SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: I was scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed when I happened upon this travesty. On of my ex-friends posted pictures of this and the matching one that she got with her sister (whose text is in English).
WHAT’S AWFUL: The lines are shaky, the shading is awful, the text is horrid, and if I’m not mistaken, the conjugation of “volent” is incorrect. And the worst part? It was done “professionally” by a shop that only recently opened right by my house. I was considering trying it out for my next piece, but this picture cast that out the window.
Yes, conjugated wrong. It should be “Nous volions ensemble”.
THIS IS WHY YOU DO NOT GET TATTOOS IN A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE UNLESS YOU ARE VERY WELL EDUCATED IN THE LANGUAGE, OR YOU CONSULT WITH A NATIVE SPEAKER.
I’ve been studying French for over 7 years. Every time I think about getting a tattoo in French, I still research it, no matter how well I think I know it. THEN I ask usually a professor who is a native speaker. Then I ask a friend who is a native speaker. You can NEVER be too careful.
